| hydro*ic acid | *ide | hydrochloric acid, HCl contains chloride, Cl- |
| -ous acid | -ite | nitrous acid, HNO2 contains nitrite ion, NO2- |
| -ic acid | -ate | sulfuric acid, H2SO4 contains sulfate, SO42- |
