T
he Houghton Mifflin Chemistry Resource Center is dedicated to providing shared resources and support
for chemical education. Designed specifically for instructors of chemistry at the college level, we'll develop the site over the coming months to meet the following goals.

Become a central clearinghouse for chemical educational materials. The clearinghouse will include user-contributed Web resource reviews, lecture demonstrations, lesson plans, video clips and animations, lecture and conference presentations, tutorials, mailing lists, laboratory modules, and more. The contents of the clearinghouse will be searchable and indexed by category, author, and also by educational objectives met. You'll also be able to contribute your own comments and reviews of the materials in the clearinghouse. You retain all intellectual property rights to the materials you contribute.

Provide primers to assist instructors who are using the Web as a resource for chemical education. The primers will also include overviews of developing instructional technologies.

Build an online community of chemical educators by highlighting discussion groups, special events, and user contributed content, and by providing onsite archives and bulletin boards. We'll maintain a listing of online events, workshops, and short courses. Sites that maintain conference calendars and diaries will be linked here. In addition to publicizing events on other sites, we'll sponsor events including:

  • guided Web tours (both "live" and prerecorded).
  • Virtual poster sessions for chemical educators and for undergraduate researchers
  • Special topic chats
  • Chats with experts and chemical celebrities(!)
