University (FSU) and the University of Maryland at College Park
(UMCP) have formed a partnership to bring undergraduate engineering
programs to the FSU campus in Frostburg, Maryland, in part via interactive
video.
These programs
offer students the advantage of attending a small university in
rural Frostburg, Maryland, while earning a degree from College Park's
established and nationally renowned Clark School of Engineering.
UMCP and FSU
are offering four year undergraduate programs in mechanical engineering
and electrical engineering.

General Education
and Lower-Level Engineering Courses
During
the first two years of both engineering programs, students complete general
education courses and lower-level engineering course requirements. These
courses are taught by faculty who are on-site at FSU.
Upper-Level Engineering Courses
During the third and
fourth years of the program, the upper-level engineering courses for mechanical
engineering are delivered to students at FSU over interactive video by
UMCP's Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Similarly, courses for the electrical engineering program are delivered
over interactive video by faculty from UMCP's
Electrical Engineering Department. The interactive video system used
for delivering courses features up-to-date technology, allowing for two-way
interaction between the instructor and students.
Laboratory and
Design Courses
All laboratory courses
and design courses for both programs are taught by engineering faculty
who are on-site at FSU.
Student Advising
for All Courses
The engineering faculty
who are on-site at FSU are available to provide advising to students for
both programs. In addition, students have the opportunity to communicate
with their instructors at UMCP through video conferencing, electronic
mail, or by personal visits to the College Park campus.
