Dalton’s Atomic Theory:Elements
Elements are composed of atoms.
Atoms of different elements have different masses.
Notes:
- Dalton’s crude experimental measurements hindered acceptance of his theory.
- e. g. oxygen’s weight is wrong because:
- his analysis of water was faulty (12.5% H, 87.5% O vs. true values, 11.19% H and 88.81% O)
- he chose HO rather than H2O as the formula for water.
