How can I find whether a material is FDA approved?

We are needing information on determining if Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene is approved by the FDA?

A quick search on the FDA's site at www.fda.gov revealed several documents about evaluating UHMWPE for use in orthopedic products.
